Community Aid Treasurer Position
Treasurer – Job Description & Duties
Based on Community Aid, Inc By Laws, the duties of Treasurer are described very broadly:
Section 5. Treasurer: The Treasurer shall be responsible for the accounting of all monies for the Corporation, including depositing and investing them in accordance with sound monetary practice. The Treasurer shall have such additional powers and duties as may be assigned by the Board. The Treasurer may be bonded, at the expense of the Corporation and at the discretion of the Board of Directors
In addition, and also from By Laws: No Director will receive, directly or indirectly, any compensation for his/her services as director. Each officer shall hold office for one year. Please note: By Laws have not been approved and would need to be approved or modified at first board meeting. Note: Community Aid will have a paid bookkeeper who will be in charge of handling the day to day finances of the organization.

- Maintain an overview of the organization’s financial affairs
- Ensuring its financial viability
- Ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. General responsibilities
- To contribute actively to Community Aid’s Board of Directors’ role in giving firm strategic direction to Community Aid, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
- To ensure that Community Aid pursues its objects as defined in its governing document
- To ensure Community Aid applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects (the charity must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are)
- To safeguard the good name and values of Community Aid
- To work closely with Community Aid’s Bookkeeper and monitor his/her performance
- To ensure the effective and efficient administration of Community Aid resources
- To ensure the financial stability of Community Aid
- To protect and manage Community Aid’s property and to ensure the proper investment of its funds. In addition to the above statutory duties, each Director should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Directors reach sound decisions. This may involve:
- Scrutinizing board papers
- Leading discussions
- Focusing on key issues
- Providing guidance on new fund rising initiatives
- Other issues in which the trustee has special expertise
