Connecting People to God

October 2007

October 4th, 2007

I’ve decided that I am moving.  Yes, I’ve found a new place to live in the past couple of weeks. I’m purchasing a small camper and moving into the parking lot of the new Wegmans Store on Carlisle Pike.  They have everything I need to live right there in that one location. I can have breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks in huge variety and cooked to order. I can have any of seven or eight varieties of fresh brewed coffee. I can purchase both fall and Christmas decorations at the same time. I can get my exercise walking around the building and giving tours. I can get my pictures developed and made into gifts, purchase all the books and magazines I’ll ever need, and create a beautiful table setting with trendy new dishes. Yep, they’ve got all I need to live right there in that one spot. And even more, it’s all packaged beautifully!

As you can see, I like the new Wegmans.  (No, I’m not being paid to write this article).  What I really like about the store is that someone took the time and energy to create something really special out of an otherwise mundane task - buying groceries.  In fact, they figured out that buying groceries doesn’t have to be about just buying groceries. I respect people with vision and determination - risk-takers.

Most folks don’t think of God as a risk-taker.  After all, He is all powerful; He can do whatever He wants.  But God is the greatest visionary, the most determined being, the greatest risk-taker of all. Because He is so full of love, He chooses to take a risk on each of us.  He could "make" us love Him.  He could "make" us do whatever He wants. But He doesn’t.  He creates each of us with the ability to choose to love Him and to love each other.  He envisions tremendous potential in every person.  He is fully determined to show His love by sending His Son Jesus to show us how to live and to offer us eternal life.

God sees tremendous potential in you while also loving you just the way you are. Jesus fully enjoys providing all the resources you need to live a rich, full life. God does not view your life as mundane and narrow. He wants to take you on a great adventure.

I figured all of that out sitting right here in my living room. Wow, I think I’ve already got all that I need.  Guess I won’t be moving to Wegmans after all. However, I might still have lunch there. There’s no need to live a mundane life.  God takes a risk on you, maybe you should take a risk on Him.
